Computer System
Computer systems are quickly becoming an everyday household appliance. The computer offers uses that range from simple Internet surfing to designing, building, and operating rocket ships. This article is aimed at providing information on the different parts that make up the personal computer (PC).
The most recognisable part of the computer is its casing. The computer casing is the housing for all the other parts that make up the computer. Some casings have special features, such as increased air flow, increased capacity for components, or even wheels for rolling the case.
What many people call the brain of the computer is the CPU or the central processing unit. This is the component that does the actual computing. The main operations of the CPU include accessing data, making calculations, and directing the operation of other components.
The motherboard is where all the internal components of the computer are connected. This allows the internal components to work together. Many motherboards include built-in sound and video cards, which allow for the output of sound and video from the computer. Other configurations require the use of separate sound cards and video cards. The motherboard also connects the power supply unit to the computer.
RAM, or random access memory, modules hold the bits of data that are currently being processed by the CPU. RAM gathers data from the hard drive and temporarily stores the data while it is being accessed by the CPU. The memory is then dumped after the processing is complete.
These are the main parts of computer systems. Different sizes, capacities, speeds, and other specifications are available for the personalisation of your computer. When purchasing your computer, be sure to look at each part to see if it provides the performance you need.
